一、 General

1W(Z)、W Series marine self-priming Swirl pumps are applicable to pumping clear water and light eroding medium.

How to choose a marine vortex pump

1. Define Usage Requirements

Media Characteristics: Determine the nature of the liquid being pumped, such as clean water, seawater, oil, or liquids containing particulate matter. Vortex pumps are suitable for clean, non-corrosive liquids without solid particles (such as fresh water, seawater, fuel oil, etc.).

Flow Rate and Head Requirements: Vortex pumps are characterized by high head and low flow rate. Confirm the required flow rate (m³/h) and head (m). If the requirements do not match these characteristics, consider other pump types (such as centrifugal pumps).

Operating Environment: Consider the type of vessel (cargo ship, passenger ship, oil tanker, etc.), installation space limitations, and environmental humidity, salinity, etc.

2. Key Performance Parameters

Flow Rate (Q): Determined based on system requirements. The flow rate range of vortex pumps is typically small (0.5~20 m³/h).

Head (H): Vortex pumps have high heads, reaching 2~5 times that of centrifugal pumps, and must be matched to system pressure requirements.

Power and Efficiency: Vortex pump efficiency is relatively low (20%~50%), requiring a trade-off between energy consumption and performance. Select the appropriate motor power (kW) based on the operating conditions to ensure no overload.

Cavitation performance: If the pump is installed above the liquid level (e.g., when pumping seawater), pay attention to the pump’s required net positive suction head (NPSHr) to avoid cavitation damage.

3. Structure, Materials, and Sealing

Corrosion Resistance: When conveying seawater or chemicals, select corrosion-resistant materials (such as bronze, stainless steel, or special alloys).

Sealing Type:

Mechanical Seal: Suitable for clean liquids, long service life, low leakage.

Stuffing Seal: Tolerates minor impurities, but requires regular maintenance.

Explosion-proof Requirements: When conveying flammable media such as fuel oil, select explosion-proof motors and pumps that meet safety standards.

4. Brand and Reliability
Select reputable brands in the marine equipment industry to ensure spare parts supply and after-sales service.

Comply with classification society certifications (such as CCS, DNV, ABS, etc.) and meet marine regulations.

5. Installation and Maintenance

Space Constraints: Vortex pumps have a compact structure, but maintenance space must be reserved.

Maintenance Ease: Check the difficulty of pump disassembly and assembly, and the ease of seal replacement.

Vibration and Noise: Select a low-vibration design to avoid affecting the comfort of ship operation.

Determine operating conditions: For example, transporting seawater, flow rate 5 m³/h, head 80 m.

Initial pump selection: Compare the performance curve of the vortex pump to confirm whether it covers the flow rate-head point.

Material verification: Select a stainless steel pump body to resist seawater corrosion.

Certification verification: Ensure the pump has classification society certification (e.g., DNV).

Installation confirmation: Verify that the interface dimensions and motor rotation direction match the system.

Precautions: The vortex pump must never be operated with the outlet valve closed, otherwise it may be damaged due to overheating.
