Marine Vertical Multistage Centrifugal Pump
一、General
The JGGC series vertical multistage centrifugal pumps are used to transport clean water or similar liquids. They are suitable for boiler feedwater, air conditioning cooling and hot water circulation, variable frequency speed control constant pressure water supply equipment, automatic fire-fighting water supply equipment, high-rise building water supply equipment, hydraulic cleaning equipment, water cooling and condensation devices, pipeline pressurization, etc. The all-stainless steel series pumps are also suitable for use in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and brewing industries.

How to choose a JGGC vertical multistage centrifugal pump?
When selecting a JGGC vertical multistage centrifugal pump (essentially a series/manufacturer model of vertical multistage centrifugal pumps), simply follow the selection path: “Medium—Flow Rate Q—Head H—NPSH/Installation—Material and Seal—Motor and Control”. Below is a practical selection guide and common pitfalls.
1) First, confirm the medium and application scenario (determine material, seal, and suitability of a multistage pump).
The following needs to be clarified:
Medium: Clean water/softened water/cooling water/boiler feedwater/mildly corrosive liquid/containing a small amount of gas?
Temperature (minimum/maximum)
Does it contain solid particles, silt, or fibers? Vertical multistage pumps are generally not suitable for sandy/sewage (multiple impeller stages, small clearances, rapid wear, and prone to jamming).
1) Variable frequency constant pressure (water supply, booster) or constant speed (boiler feedwater, etc.) required?
2) Determine the flow rate Q (m³/h) and operating range.
Give: Common flow rate, maximum flow rate, minimum flow rate.
When selecting a pump, ensure the common flow point falls within 0.8~1.1×BEP of the pump curve for greater stability and energy saving.
If your system has a large number of low-flow operations, consider:
The pump’s minimum continuous stable flow rate (provided by the manufacturer).
Whether bypass backflow/low flow protection is needed.
3) Calculate the total head H (m) – This is the easiest to calculate incorrectly.
The total head should typically include:
Static head: The height difference (or pressure difference) from the suction liquid surface to the highest point of water use.
Terminal pressure requirement: For example, 0.25MPa ≈ 25m.
Pipeline losses: Frictional + local (valves, elbows, check valves, filters, flow meters).
Equipment pressure drop: Heat exchangers, softeners, boilers, economizers, etc.
Maintenance: Commonly used. 5-10% Convert pressure to head:
1 MPa ≈ 100 m water column; 0.1 MPa ≈ 10 m.
4) Check NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) and Installation Method
Vertical multistage pumps are commonly used for pressurization and water replenishment, many operating under “pressurized suction” or “backflow,” making them relatively less prone to cavitation. However, if drawing from a water tank, the following should be considered:
Liquid level to pump inlet height (suction or backflow)
Suction pipe losses (small pipe diameter/clogged filter is the most critical)
High water temperature (hot water, boiler feedwater) significantly increases the risk of cavitation.
Request the manufacturer to provide the NPSHr under this operating condition. Your system must meet NPSHa ≥ NPSHr + 0.5-1 m (empirical margin).
5) Use “Number of Stages/Impeller Combination” to Meet Head Requirements: Don’t Just Look at “How Many Stages”
JGGC multistage pumps typically achieve different heads through different combinations of stages/impeller diameters. What you need to do is:
Find the curve that satisfies H (corresponding to a certain stage) under the target flow rate Q.
Simultaneously check the efficiency and shaft power at that point to avoid selecting the end of the curve (low efficiency, large vibration, easy overload).
6) Material selection (especially stainless steel grade and chloride ion resistance)
Common selection logic:
Clean water/general domestic water: 304 stainless steel pump body/impeller is common.
High chloride ion content (groundwater, tap water at the seaside, cooling tower makeup water, etc.): Prioritize 316/316L or higher grades, otherwise the risk of pitting corrosion is high.
High temperature feedwater: Pay attention to shaft seal, O-ring, and temperature resistance rating.
For mildly corrosive media: The media composition must be provided so that the manufacturer can select materials according to the corrosion table.
7) Sealing and Pressure Rating
Commonly Used: Mechanical seals (silicon carbide/graphite, or silicon carbide/silicon carbide, etc., paired)
High medium temperature, high pressure, frequent start-stop: Higher grade seals are recommended; flushing/cooling solutions may be necessary.
Verify the pump’s maximum operating pressure/casing pressure resistance (multi-stage pumps may have very high outlet pressures; do not only consider the head).
8) Motor Selection and Control (Constant Power/Variable Frequency)
Select motor power based on the shaft power curve under maximum operating conditions × (1.1~1.2 margin).
Constant water supply pressure: Prioritize variable frequency + pressure sensor, and set:
Minimum flow protection corresponding to the minimum frequency
Overpressure, underpressure, and water shortage (dry running) protection
Verify power supply: 380V/50Hz, etc., protection level IP55, insulation class F, explosion-proof (only select if required)
9) On-site equipment recommendations (to improve stability and reduce failures):
Suction side: Short and straight pipe with sufficient diameter; the filter should be washable and pressure loss controllable.
Outlet side: Check valve + shut-off valve; for variable frequency systems, slow-closing check valve/water hammer protection is recommended.
Required instruments: Inlet pressure/vacuum gauge, outlet pressure gauge, flow rate (optional), temperature (hot water). Water shortage/low liquid level interlock is a lifesaver for multistage pumps (dry running quickly damages the seals).
